Daily calorie calculator
A starting estimate of how many calories your dog needs each day, using the resting energy requirement formula vets teach.
Estimated daily calories

How this is calculated
We use the standard two-step approach. First the resting energy requirement: RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75. Then we multiply by a life-stage and activity factor to get the daily energy requirement.
What it can't tell you
- Individual metabolism varies widely — two dogs of the same weight can differ by 20–30%.
- Treats, chews and training rewards count. Keep them to roughly 10% of the daily total.
- Medical conditions, pregnancy, nursing and prescription diets change everything here. Those need your vet, not a calculator.
Using the number
Treat it as a starting point, then adjust based on body condition over several weeks: you should be able to feel ribs easily without pressing hard, and see a waist from above.
Food guidance here is educational only. If your dog has allergies, chronic illness, gastrointestinal issues, kidney disease, pancreatitis or any other medical concern, choose their diet with a licensed veterinarian.
