Check your peanut butter label before you start: it must not contain xylitol (sometimes listed as birch sugar or E967), which is extremely dangerous to dogs. Use plain peanut butter with no added sweeteners, salt or chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons plain xylitol-free peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons plain unsweetened natural yoghurt (or water for dairy-sensitive dogs)

Instructions

  1. 1

Mash the banana in a bowl until smooth.

  2. 2

Stir in the peanut butter and yoghurt until you have an even, thick mixture.

  3. 3

Spoon into a silicone mini-mould or drop small teaspoons onto a lined tray.

  4. 4

Freeze for at least 3 hours until firm.

  5. 5

Pop out and transfer to an airtight container in the freezer.

Serving guidance

One small bite for a small dog, up to two for a large dog, occasionally. Treats should stay within about 10% of daily calories.

Safety notes

  • Peanut butter must be xylitol-free — check the label every time you buy.
  • Peanut butter and banana are both calorie-dense, so keep portions small.
  • Skip the yoghurt if your dog does not tolerate dairy.
