Can dogs eat carrots?
One of the most useful low-calorie treats for weight-managed dogs.
Why
Carrots are low in calories and high in fibre, which makes them a good filler treat. Raw batons give a satisfying crunch; cooked carrot is softer and easier for older dogs.
Portion guidance
A few batons a day is reasonable for most dogs within their treat allowance.
Preparation
Wash and cut into batons or coins sized so they cannot be swallowed whole. Steam or boil without salt or seasoning for softer pieces.
Important warnings
Whole large carrots can splinter or be gulped by strong chewers — supervise. Undigested carrot in stools is normal and harmless.
